Because of its geographical position, the city has always been politically important. In ancient times, the city was known as Pratisthana. However, later it became to be known as Paithan, which over the years became Pathankot. In fact, the Mughal records show this place as Paithan, not Pathankot.
Annapurna temple: Dedicated to Goddess Annapurna, the deity of food the temple also houses the shrines of Sivan, Hanuman and Kalabhairava. The entrance of the temple is adorned with four-life size statues of elephants, and the architectural splendour of the temple makes it a must-visit for all tourists.
Mukhteshwar Mahadev Temple:The main attraction of the temple is a marble shivling. The temple also houses idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Hanuman and Goddess Parvati. Some caves near the temple are believed to have been there from the times of Mahabharata.
