Dharamshala is a town in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It serves as the winter capital of the state and the administrative headquarters of the Kangra district since 1855. The town also hosts the Tibetan Government-in-exile. Dharamshala was a municipal council until 2015, when it was upgraded to a municipal corporation.
The town is located in the Kangra Valley, in the shadow of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas at an altitude of 1,457 metres. References to Dharamshala and its surrounding areas are found in ancient Hindu scriptures such as Rig Veda and Mahabharata. The region was under Mughal influence before it was captured by the Sikh empire in 1785.

Tsuglagkhang Complex Dalai Lama Temple: The main attraction of Dalai Lama Temple is the enormous idol of Buddha sitting on an elevated pedestal. The chief prayer wheel is also located here, at the centre of the temple which is plated in gold and has chants of 'Om Mani Padme Hum'. Pilgrims walk around the pedestal to pay homage and rotate the prayer wheel.
Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala: The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association [HPCA] Stadium in Dharamsala, with a capacity of 23,000, is as picturesque as the Adelaide Oval and Newlands, if not more. A small and glittering green plate, the ground has a snow-capped background in the form of the Dauladhar hill-range.
Namgyal Monastery: One of the largest Tibetan temples, the Namgyal Monastery is renowned as the home of the Dalai Lama. Surrounded by lush greenery and snow-capped mountains, the monastery has a scenic repose. It also houses a tantric college where young monks learn and practice the various ritualistic traditions of Buddhism.
